Pyruvate is formed as a result of metabolic conversion of glucose. The process of Glycolysis takes place in cytosol and it produce a net production of 2NADHs and 2ATPs per molecule of glucose. In human cells, Pyruvate converts to lactic acid under anaerobic condition.

In case of yeast cells, the pyruvate molecules convert into carbon dioxide and ethanol under anaerobic condition.
