IN PLANTS CYTOKINESIS OCCURS BY CELL PLATE FORMATION.CELL PLATE FORMATION OCCURS AT CENTRE OF CELL AND GROWS OUTWARDS.IN ANIMALS CYTOKINESIS OCCURS BY CLEAVAGE.CLEAVAGE STARTS AT PERIPHERY AND COMES INWARDS DIVIDE INTO TWO PARTS.

1(i) The division of the cytoplasm takes place by cell plate formation.
2(i) The division of the cytoplasm takes place by cleavage.
1(ii) Cell plate formation starts at the centre of the cell and grows outward, toward the lateral walls.
2(ii) Cleavage starts at the periphery and then moves inward, dividing the cell into two parts.

In animal cell, a furrow appears in the plasma membrane. The furrow gradually deepens and finally joins in the centre. Thus, the cytoplasm is divided into two parts. In plant cells, cell wall formation begins in the centre. This grows outwards to meet the existing lateral walls and thus, the cytoplasm is divided into two parts.
