An ecological pyramid (or trophic pyramid) is a graphical representation designed to show the biomass or biomass productivity at each trophic level in a given ecosystem.
Deforestation leads to large scale cutting down of trees which brings soil erosion and causes destruction to vegetation. The land becomes dry and arid.

The answer to your two-parter question can be understood only when on understands the the basis of ecological pyramid. There are three types of ecological pyramids viz.
1)pyramid of numbers
This represents the amount or number of organisms at each trophic level. At the base we have the microorganisms and the producers with the highest no and it decreases with each trophic level. The carnivors at the end has the least no.
2) pyramid of biomass
Like the previous point this pyramid refers to the total biomass at each trophic level. This pyramid can be upright or inverted depending on ecosystems.
3)pyramid of energy.
Like the above, this pyramid refers to the amount of energy produced and consumed with each trophic level. The producers have the highest amount of energy produced from photosynthesis and with each trophic level there is 90% energy loss due to respiration etc. The consumer level has the least amount of energy.
Now keeping this is mind we have to understand that an ecosystem consist of plants animals and other microorganisms. Deforestation means destroying plants and the habitats of certain species of those who live in a particular habitat. These results in damaging food web and food chain. And it. Ultimately leads to a damaged ecosystem. With no plants and trees to produce enough energy, biomass, the ecosystem is affected and serious harm is done to other trophic levels
