How does democracy enhances the dignity of citizens
Answers
Answer:
Democracy is appealing as everyone gets a say in “choosing” the authority. But you should observe why only rich gets their way while countless poor and discriminated are silenced in one way or the other. There should be a new term by now because capitalism changed the world and the way democracy was perceived.
Now, only money or power enhances anybody’s life. Rest are treated as collateral or too common to notice. Every system and institution in a democracy was and mostly is built for an average citizen. But that’s not the case how it plays out. An average citizen is just a number on voting poll as far as politics are concerned, rich are concentrated on accumulating more riches.
But, one power a democracy provides unequivocally to each and every citizen is freedom of expression. But that too is a privilege to most of the citizens. Because it’s a power not everybody recognizes or at a liberty to use. Most of the poor are uneducated and are afraid of the law enforcement because we all know that they can be bought.
To educate them, some constitutions have education as a basic right too but that’s a pipe dream when education ministers have countless institutions of their own that are pure moneymakers. These situations makes an average citizen indebted for life just to get their children a bachelor’s degree.
So, not every citizen has an enhanced dignity in democracy but they everybody has a chance of realizing the trap they’re in and float intelligently between the systems that are supposed to protect them.
For example, possessing marijuana above certain amount is illegal in India but smoking isn’t. So, all you have to do is smoke all you want without ever getting into supplying game even if it’s for your closest people. And you can getaway with anything as long as you link religion with it. Use that to your advantage IF situation demands. Like just say you’re a devotee of lord shiva and smoke in his honor. Even if you’re a non believer.
