A double-bond will cause a bend in the chain of carbon atoms. This bend inpedes the ability of the molecules to align in an “orderly” fashion; meaning they remain a jumbled mess of molecules at lower temperatures. Thus, increasing the amount of double-bonds of a compound will lower its melting point.
