Earth, the only planet which harbours life in our solar system, or maybe the only one in the whole universe! There are estimates that planet earth currently hosts nearly 6.5 million species on land and 2.2 million species on ocean. But have you ever thought that how did, the earth which carries so many species, was formed in the first place,....... well, lets find out.

Around 5 billion years ago Solar system was a cloud of dust particles and gas called the solar nebula rotating through empty space. It is believed that the explosion of a nearby star caused a shock wave, disturbing the cloud of gas and dust particles.

The first era in which the Earth existed is what is known as the Hadean Eon. It is a geological period which began with the formation of earth about 4.6 billion years ago and ended, 4 billion years ago. During this period our planet earth was in a violent condition. It was just formed and still very hot due to high volcanic activities and frequent collision with other solar system bodies.

These volcanic activities produced the primordial atmosphere. As a result water vapour condensed and cooled the molten exterior of the planet to form a solid crust and produced the oceans.

Around 4.48 billion years ago, the Earth’s only satellite, the Moon, was formed. The most common theory, known as the “giant impact hypothesis” proposes that the Moon originated after a planet the size of Mars (named Theia) collided with Earth.

The collision was enough to vaporize some of the Earth’s outer layers and melt both bodies, and a portion of the mantle material was ejected into orbit around the Earth. This portion in orbit around the Earth condensed, and under the influence of its own gravity, became a more spherical body: the Moon.

Our planet earth is 149.6 million KM away from Sun. And thanks to this distance earth is able to sustain life. It is still not very well how did we land so perfectly in this habitable zone. Well after all We're still very much apes with smartphones.
