There is a massive difference between the earth soil particles so it can able to soak water.
After soaking it enters into the well and step wells like an evaporation.
Step wells are known as ponds or wells in which the water level is attained by descending through set of straps.
They are multi-storied to turn on the water wheel to increase the water level from first to second floor simultaneously
