In order to realize your goal in life most people need to experiment. Education provides the opportunity to experiment.
You are exposed to different subjects, and you become novice at best to many of them. As you learn and experience more topics, this opens more opportunity to other areas for you to experiment.
The math route allows you to explore physics, engineering, chemistry, astronomy, finance, business etc.
English allows you to explore literature, writing, journalism, foreign language, etc.
There’s art, there’s music, there’s physical education if you want to become an athelete, history, earth sciences etc.
You don’t wake up one day and decide you want to do cancer research. It starts out with maybe an interest in math which is very broad. Because you like math you decide to pursue physics, but realize you dislike physics. Then you wander around in chemistry then organic chemistry and then biochemistry.
You learn all about cell division and all the complex components involved and how a single mistake results in cancer. Then you learn how these genes affect other pathways and you start an internship to get a hand in cancer research.
Education is one way that many people use to realize their aspirations, there are many other ways but why limit yourself? Take all the opportunity you can, after all, it’s free. Up until college that is.
