Electropositivity - Tendency to "lose" electrons.
As we go down the group, we find metallic nature of elements increasing.
Also, metals are known to be electropositive ( as they tend to lose electrons all the time).
Also the atomic radius of elements goes on increasing down the group.
Due to this , electrons can be easily lost from the outermost shell , as nucleus is way too far from the outermost shell .
But , on the other hand, electropositivity decreases across the period , as the atomic size goes on decreasing and, the nuclear charge is more , on the electrons. Hence, the as we go across the period , the elements tend to be electronegative in nature( tendency to gain electrons)
