Tawang is a very beautiful valley located between Bhutan and Tibet. It is a place of imposing monasteries in the midst of oak and pine trees, streams and waterfalls and the green grassy carpet covered by millions of beautiful flowers. Elwin sees it as a Paradise on earth, and hence he calls his journey to Tawang, a pilgrimage.

Verrier Elwin (1902 – 1964) was a British missionary in India, who later on worked with Gandhiji. In 1935 he converted to Hinduism. He was a tribal activist and worked for their upliftment in India.
