The excessive use of fertilisers cause the micro organisms in the water to get a healthy growth. Therefore, the micro organisms like algae grow and block sunlight from reaching the aquatic organisms.so it causes eutrophication.

Fertilisers contain many nutrients ,which if present in excess ,tend to lead to the growth of excess algal blooms .This leads to low supply of oxygen in water bodies which tends to suffocate aquatic plants and animals and eventually kills them .
