The site of fertilisation is fallopian tube or also we can say oviduct ... there are may methods to prevent pregnancy ... the membrane of ovum gets thicker due to which a sperm can't inseminate due to which a women do not get pregnant

The thick fertilization membrane of an ovum in mammals is called as a Zona Pellucida that allow only the species-specific fertilization and it plays an important role in preventing polyspermy.

It is a thick layer that is surrounded by the corona radiata. It prevents polyspermy which means prevent fertilization of one egg with more than one sperm and initiate the acrosomal reaction for the successful penetration of the sperm cell.
