You have picked a great analogy of the football.
When you kick the football, there is a physical contact between your foot and the ball. Application of force pushes the football forward. Creating Motion.
However, in electricity there are two types of particles:
1. Electrons, which are said to carry negative charge.
2. Protons, which are said to carry positive charge.
We don't know what a charge is. But we do know what a charge does. And a negative charge is not less than a positive charge.
When we bring a electron near a proton or a proton near a electron both particles get attracted to each other.But,

This spontaneous attraction and repulsion creates motion and is used to generate electricity.
Computer is nothing but a device which forces this attraction, repulsion to take place in a way such that the final goal of being able to use the software is accomplished. Its ultimately all a manipulation. You know that something when put together causes attraction, and you put it there to force that attraction to take place. Its similar to leaving a 100rupee note on the ground. We know that any human who sees it will bend down due to the attraction. To make any human bend this way you put that note down and your task gets accomplished.
You might now want to know how 'exactly' does the computer manipulate the protons and the electrons but sadly no one can explain it to you in the scope of this answer in layman terms. Will probably need a book.

All your data is stored in the form of 0s(zeros) and 1s(ones). So any photo you see thats stored in the computer is actually just some 0s and 1s grouped together in a file.
0 means no charge.
1 means some charge.
Thus all your files, images, videos, softwares all of them are a result of lots and lots of these no charge and charge elements.
And computer is just a intelligently created device which knows how to handle the attraction and repulsion in the charges to accomplish our goals
