how does flood occur what measures we can take to prevent it
Answers
Answer:
Some methods of flood control have been practiced since ancient times. These methods include planting vegetation to retain extra water, terracing hillsides to slow flow downhill, and the construction of floodways (man-made channels to divert floodwater).
Answer:
What are floods :
Overflow of water from water body covers the land that normally covered by water is called as flood. It is caused by excessive rainfall, rupture of dam wall, extensive cutting trees and blocking of river's path by land slide.
How does floods occur?
A flood occurs when water inundates land that's normally dry, which can happen in a multitude of ways. Excessive rain, a ruptured dam or levee, rapid melting of snow or ice, or even an unfortunately placed beaver dam can overwhelm a river, spreading over the adjacent land, called a floodplain.
We should use following measures to prevent the floods :
a. Afforestation involves the planting of trees in a drainage basin to increase interception and storage while reducing surface runoff. This reduces a rivers discharge and so makes it less likely to flood. Afforestation also prevents mass wasting which reduces the amount of soil entering the river and keeps the rivers capacity high. When combined with floodplain zoning, afforestation can be very effective at reducing the risk of flooding. Planting trees help prevent erosion because the roots bind the soil.
b. Arrangement of sanitation to prevent spread of disease.
