the answer is we use car brakes if you want to stop or slow down .

hey ! mate . here is your answer
The direction of the force of friction is always in a direction opposing motion .for ex:- an object sliding down an incliy plane experience s friction directed up the inclined plane . An object that slides to the right experiences friction towards the left .
