What is an electric fuse ?
An electric fuse is a safety device which melts and breaks the circuit whenever there is an excess flow of current through the circuit.
The electric fuse is used to limit the current flowing through the circuit.
It is usually made up of an alloy of lead and tin . It works on the heating effect of the electric current .
The purpose of electric fuse :
(i) It prevents the appliance from being damaged .
(ii) It prevents electric fire.
(iii) It saves the life of a person because if a person would have come in contact of the heavy current , then his life would have been in danger.
(iv) It is economical and allows repair of the faulty appliance .
