Harijans were formerly called ''Untouchables". They were considered to be the lowest among all other castes. They were always given the tasks and jobs that involved dust and trash. like cleaning toilets , burning the dead ones , their work required much energy. Gandhi was such an influential leader and a true example of nation's hero. He felt pity for this cast and they closely touched his heart. He changed their names from untouchables to ''Harijans" meaning child of God. He then worked side by side with harijans just to prove it to the world that their job does not make this community the untouchables. He cleaned toilets with them, he went with them to sweep the streets. He has set an example for everyone.
