How does genetics relate to meiosis?

Genetic variation is increased by meiosis. During fertilisation, 1 gamete from each parent combines to form a zygote. Because of recombination and independent assortment in meiosis, each gamete contains a different set of DNA. This produces a unique combination of genes in the resulting zygote.

meiosis is a cell division process that give rise to gametes. During meiosis the chromosome number is halved and at this point that genetic make up each gamete us determined. The chromosome pair up and genes are transferred from one chromosome to other in the process of recombination.
