Because the earth exerts a force of attraction of gravity and pull it down .
ex. rain falls down from the sky to the earth due to the gravitational force of earth.

Gravity is a very important force. Every object in space exerts a gravitational pull on every other, and so gravity influences the paths taken by everything traveling through space.
