Gulliver describes Laputa as a flying island that has an adamantine base. The inhabitants of this island are capable of moving in any direction using magnetic levitation. Moreover, they are highly educated with a passion for astronomy, technology, mathematics and music. But, they do not the make practical use of their skills.
