Gulliver describes the king of Brobdingnag as "a Prince of much Gravity and austere Countenance" who is "as learned a Person as any in his Dominions," having been trained "in the Study of Philosophy, and particularly Mathematics."
From the description we feel that Gulliver is impressed by the wise reflections and observations of the king and seeks to please and impress him. Later when the king expresses his low opinion of England, Gulliver's attitude towards the king changes. He thinks that limited education was the cause for the king's narrow thinking.
