How does ice and frost help in the hilly region

Answer:

During the winter, the water in pipes in hilly region freezes. This due to low temperature of the atmosphere. Due to the freezing of water in pipes, the water turns into liquid state to solid state i.e ice. As it turn into ice the density of water rises and it area becomes 2 times bigger.
