More population means more burning of fossil fuels like coal for transportation and production of various products. This leads to increased production of gases like carbon monoxide which trap the sunlight causing the green house effect and resulting in global warming

The increased use of fossil fuels has a negative effect on the health of theenvironment in terms of air and water pollution. ... Rising fossil fuel use also means a greater build-up of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere, higher greenhouse gas emissions, and global warming.
