The replacement of white coloured moth and dark coloured moth melanic species due to industrial smoke is called industrial melanism .

It is very nice example of natural selection in which a normal trait is changed in response to changing environment to produce better adapted individual.

Here, Nature(environment) supports the dark moth with dark background of the bark of tree, Due to the dark back ground of the bark the dark moth are not seen by the predators which helps them in increasing their populations.
