Their intermole cular force is very weak compare to metals .
Theri tendency is low compare to metal molecules .
Due to theri weak force they melt easily
.Solid carbon dioxide is known as dry ice. Because it looks like iceand because when it “melts” it goes fromsolid stage to gas, no liquid, hence dry ice.

1)The intermolecular forces increase with increasing polarization of bonds. Strength of forces (and therefore impact on boiling points) is ionic > hydrogen bonding > dipole dipole > dispersion. Boiling point increases with molecular weight, and with surface area
2)Solid carbon dioxide directly changes into carbon dioxide gas and does not melt to produce a liquid (like ordinary ice) hence it is called dry ice.
