Iodine is a highly effective topical antimicrobial that has been used clinically in the treatment of wounds for more than 170 years.

It provides anti
microbial activity (with efficiency) against bacteria, mycobacteria,  fungi, protozoan and viruses.

Thus, iodine helps  to cure both acute and chronic wounds.

Iodine reduces thyroid hormone and can kill fungus, bacteria, and other microorganisms such as amoebas. A specific kind of iodine called potassiumiodide is also used to treat (but not prevent) the effects of a radioactive accident.
