The first step in germination, imbibition, occurs when a dry seedabsorbs water and begins to swell. Water softens the seed coat, allowing moisture to seep into the seed more deeply. Water then activates enzymes in the embryo, and it becomes metabolically active, using its stored food supply to fuel early growth.

in dry state the seed is inactive and when it come incontact with moisture ( water, soil) it break seed dormancy and start to germinate and the gyberlline hormone is responsible for the breaking of seed dormancy and start to germinate in soil and the irrigation or supply of water help the seed to germinate so in this way it help in seed dormancy and the seed come to big plant
HOPE U UNDERSTAND MY ANS.
