Explanation:

I wasted 2 years of my life in that mentality. The worst bit wasn't the loneliness, but that he was suggesting that self help and 'get out there and be confident' wouldn't work that I needed some special therapies that were either not used yet or only available through sex surrogates. At times I spent hours with my head in my hands in my apartment crying, I was in such despair. And even when I had my second ever kiss with a woman during that period (my first in 5 years) I wrote it off as 'exception to the rule'.

A major step forward was a trip I took with friends from college a few months later. Many things happened. I noticed that the intense fear usually got when going 'on the pull' went away. I stopped getting upset at seeing a woman I wanted getting with someone else, and I started being more forward with women. By the end I was almost ice-like inside even when one woman turned me down.
