How does it help in making accurate measurement of time period if you measure time of 50 oscillations instead of 20 oscillations?

you are measuring the time period by counting the oscillations the more you take the more the accurate result will be because at the end you take average value. during oscillations energy decreases of the pendulun and it will not unifrom in time so that after taking average it will give you correct answer
