Latitude plays an important role in determining the climate of a region. The Earth is spherical in shape, and the curvature increases with the latitude. The amount of solar energy and heat received from the Sun decreases as we go to higher latitudes or as we go away from the Equator toward the poles. The Tropic of Cancer passes through India. It divides the country into half running from Rann of Kutch to Mizoram. The area south of this Tropic of Cancer lies in the tropical region and the region to the north of this belongs to the sub-tropical region. Hence, India experiences both tropical and sub-tropical climate.
