Rays of light reflect, or bounce off, objects just like a ball bounces on the ground. This reflection of light is whatenables us to see everything aroundus. ... We can see the Moon because the Sun's light is reflected off the Moon's surface. Light can reflect in different ways, changing the wayobjects look.

As light travels in straight lines (also known as rectilinear propagation of light), light rays from the source reflects on objects. This reflected light hits the screen of the eye, i.e. the retina and the nerve cells there send signals to the brain helping us understand what the object is.
Different objects have different reflecting and absorption power. For example, solids like glass absorb the least light and allow most of the light falling on it to pass through. They are called Transparent Object.
An object with a smooth and shiny surface such as a mirror or a polished metal surface reflects more light than an object with a dull surface such as a book or a wall.
