Lushkhoff was a beggar. To get a job he had lied to many people but all resulted in a failure. To some people he said that he was a school teacher and got out for drunkenness and to some people he said he was a doctor and he was a retired men. Neither of this was true. He was a lazy fellow, he had no good intentions to work hard and make his money himself. He always wished to lie and lie till he gets a proper job. He cribs and whines about his financial and economical condition to everyone he meets. Yet none of this is true. He has lied to Sergei twice hence Sergei found out what was happening around him and exposed the truth.
