The integration of New Zealand forest products in the global market: a review of the role of marketing in the development of exports for plantation-grown Pinus radiata.

New Zealand currently has 1.4 million ha of land classified as commercial forest, all of which is plantation forest, representing 5 percent of the country's land area. Additionally, the land area devoted to commercial/plantation forest is increasing: during the past five years it has increased at an average annual rate of 55 000 ha. Much of the recent expansion has been at the expense of more traditional agricultural pursuits such as sheep farming and has been undertaken mainly by small-scale forest owners, farmers and investors.
