Mr Marvel tried to get rid of the invisible man by trying to convince him that he was good for nothing. He claimed to be useless and could help him in no way. Griffin reacted by threatening him with dire consequences if he harboured such thoughts. Griffin knew that Marvel, an outcast, was the perfect slave helper for him.
