Acids will react with reactive metals, such as magnesium and zinc, to make a salt and hydrogen. The hydrogen causes bubbling during the reaction. Itcan be detected using a lighted splint, which causes the gas to burn with a squeaky pop.

Acids are the hydrogen containing compound which gives free hydrogen ions when dissolved in water.
An acid reacts with metals to form hydrogen gas.
Metals + Acid ---> Salt + Hydrogen gas.
Acid reacts with most metals to produce corresponding salts and hydrogen gas is given out.
Carbonic acid doesn't reacts with metals.
Example :
Mg + H < sub > 2 < / sub > SO < sub > 4 < / sub >
