sulphur dioxide emission from industry have reached levels ten times above the prescribed levels.combined with oxygen and moisture,sulphur dioxide settles on the surface of the tomb and corrodes the marble,farming a fungus that experts call as 'marble cancer'.the environmentalist analysed that the refinery is creating high levels of suspended particulate matter,dusrt and exhaust.these are causing taj mahal to change colour.

Mathura Refinery releases toxic gases like oxides of sulphur into air.
When rainfall occurs Sulphur Dioxide combines with rain water to form sulphuric acid.
When this acid water falls on Taj Mahal which is made up of marble stone origin of marble occurs.
So Mathura Refinery poses problems to Taj Mahal.
