Every month the uterus prepares its uterine wall [endometrium] with rich blood and some essential nutrients to nourish the fertilized egg. If the egg is not fertilized then the lining of uterus breaks and blood with some cartilages and mucous starts flowing out through vagina. This process is called menstruation. So, this the way how menstruation occurs.
