A metal reacts with an acid to give its respective salt and hydrogen.
The reactivity of a metal depends on the reactivity series. The metals above hydrogen in the chart react vigourously while the ones below it have a slow and smooth reaction.
Eg;- Zn + HCl —> ZnCl2 + H2

When an acid reacts with metal, a salt and hydrogen are produced:
acid + metal → salt + hydrogen
An example:
nitric acid + calcium → calcium nitrate + hydrogen
The salt that is produced depends upon which acid and which metal react.
