Methane react with chlorine in presence of sunlight formation of methyl chloride then methyl chloride treated with dry magnesium formation of Grignard type compound methyl magnesium chloride then it react with carbon dioxide formation of salt like magnesium compound finally hydrolysis formation of ethanoic acid or acetic acid.

ii) that CH3OH racts with O2 in presence of platinum as the catalyst and a temperature of 300°C
