Mining plays an important role in determining the land use pattern of a region.
1. Mining obviously means the existence of a lot of mines in a region. That itself sets the land use pattern in that region. The most important economic activity of that region then becomes mining for natural resources. Mining also attracts industries which use the minerals that are being mined to that region. Thus mining leads to industrialization.
2. Extensive mining makes an area unsuitable for agriculture and dense habitation. Since most of the land area is dug up for mines, farming cannot be conducted and not many people can live there.
3. Mining also leads to problems of air, water and land pollution which further prevents other economic activities like farming in such region. Not many people can live in such polluted regions.
