✳Compounds✳
- Compounds are pure substance formed by chemical combination of two or more elements.
- The compounds have a fixed chemical composition of substances.
- Elements of compounds can only be separated by chemical processes.
- The properties of compounds are different from it's constituents.
- Examples of compounds includes :- Carbon Dioxide , Water , Table Salt etc.
✳Mixtures✳
- Mixtures are impure substances that are formed by physical combination of two or more substances.
- Mixture has variable composition of substances.
- Elements in mixtures can be separated easily by simple physical process of separation.
- The properties of mixture are same as that of it's constituents.
- Examples of mixture includes :- Smog , Oil in water , Air etc.
Extra Bite
Pure (Distillised) water is an example of compound while Sea water ,Rain water,Well water etc are mixture because they have dissolved substances like nitrates, nitrates, phosphates, chlorides , etc in it.

- Elements or compounds are simply mixed so no new substance is formed.
- Elements do not combine in a fixed ratio.
- A mixture shows the properties of its components.
- Components can be easily separated by any mechanical method which is suitable.
- E.g., Mixture of iron and sulphur.
- Substances are reacted together with each other to make a new substance.
- Composition of the components is fixed i.e., they combine together in a fixed radio according to their masses.
- Compound doesn't show the properties of component elements.
- Components can't be separated from each other by simple mechanical methods.
- E.g., Iron and sulphur react to form iron sulphide.
More Information :
Pure ( Distilled ) water is an example of compound while Sea water , Rain , Water , Well etc. are mixture because they have dissolved substances like Nitrates , Phosphates , Chlorides etc. in it.
