Toluene can be made from n-heptane by the process of AROMATIZATION. It is carried out by heating n-heptane at 500 degrees Celsius(673K) in the presence of catalysts (silicon dioxide, aluminum oxide and chromium(III) oxide). in addition, hydrogen gas is also evolved as a by product.
