The awakening of Helen's soul was brought about through her sense of kinship with the rest of the world and nature played a crucial part in it. She had her first lessons in the beneficence of nature. Helen learned how the sun and rain complemented the efforts of men who prepared the earth for seed such that trees can grow, making the world pleasant to the sight, providing food, shelter to birds who build their nests and live and thrive from land to land, also giving food and shelter to creatures ranging from the squirrel, deer, lion and all others. Helen's early education was under the tutelage of nature through touch and feel. Long before she learned to do a sum in arithmetic or describe the shape of the earth, Helen learned the beauty in the fragrant woods, every blade of grass and linked her earliest thoughts with nature.
