The neurons or nerve cells are connected with other nerve cells where the electric nerve impulses are originated, processed, transmitted, and received. They are connected to other cells in muscles, organs, or glands.

The electric impulses of the neuronal cells can be measured using patch clamp technique.

The electric impulse of the neuronal cell that is derived from human skin cells of a person who had a motor neuron disease (MND) have been measured (of course electric impulses of any cell can be measured).

In the experiments researchers used technique called whole-cell patch-clamp recording that allowed them to record the electrical activity of motor neurons. Using this technique they were able to see possible changes in the specialized membrane proteins, which were necessary for producing action potentials.
