When amoeba comes in the contact of food it makes finger - like projections on its body to take food inside the body in a food vacuole.

Inside the food vacuole, complex substances are broken down into simpler once which then diffuse into the cytoplasm.

The remaining undigested material is moved to the surface of the cell and thrown out.
