Thanks for the A2A. I will try my best to give the simplest answer.. with some very interesting facts about Hydra.

Hydra is a carnivorous organism and they use their tentacles to catch their prays. Upon touching, they inject a toxin to paralyze the prey and move it towards the mouth by contracting the tentacle.

Digestion of ingested food is interesting because Hydra combines the intracellular digestion of protozoa and extracellular digestion of higher animals.

They can digest proteins and fats but not starch.

Indigestible materials are ejected through their MOUTH WHICH IS ALSO THE ANUS…!!!

Yikes…!.. good that they don't have teeth. Brushing them would have been like cleaning the toilet..!

As long as the bud is a bud ( ie, attached to the mother Hydra), it will get food from her.

The bud only form when there's plenty of food and warm waters. It only gets separated from the mother Hydra, when it develops all the tentacles and a mouth. it starts living on it's own like a normal Hydra, by using it's tentacles after  eating and pooping through the mouth.
