Oliver lands up in the police station. Mr Brownlow has a feeling that Oliver is being wrongly accused. Oliver was unwell and ends up fainting. Mr. Brownlow then takes Oliver home and has a bed prepared for him. He takes care of him with a deep concern. However the story goes on to speak about how Oliver is legally adopted by Mr. Brownlow at the end.

One day Oliver goes with Dodger and Bates for 'work' which he was unaware of. He sees Dodger pick=pocket Mr. Brownlow who raised an alarm after he realized that he had been pick-pocketed. Dodger and Bates had already slipped off and poor Oliver is caught, for when he got to know what work Dodger and Bates doing, he started running and when Mr. Brownlow saw him running, he mistook Oliver as thief. Oliver is taken to the court and there he faints. The book stall keeper gives his witness that he saw everything and Oliver was innocent. Mr. Brownlow's took him home inthat sick condition and called the doctor to attend. Mr. Brownlow is a kind fatherly figure for Oliver and towards the end he adopts Oliver.
