India is a country which comprises of 28 states and 7 union                                      territories.

• The two main cities Kolkata and Mumbai are 1605 km apart yet they share the same time.

• It was in 1906 that India was given a single time for all its states i.e. GMT +5.30.

• It is easy to maintain unity in diversity with a single time all across the country.
