Plant cells are enclosed by a rigid cell wall. When the plant cell is placed in a hypotonic solution it takes a water by osmosis and it starts to swell but the cell wall prevents it from bursting.

Osmosis takes place in an Amoeba much like any other single celled aquatic organism with water diffusing across it cell membrane into the cell because of the higher concentration of solute in it cytoplasm.

Hope it will help you

This movement of water takes place across a partially permeable membrane. Osmosis can cause problems for organisms living in fresh water – they tend to gain water byosmosis and need to remove excess water. Microscopic animals, such asamoeba, have contractile vacuoles inside their bodies.
