Increasing population creates demand for more buildings and roads. This decreases the open areas. This will reduce the seepage of water. Moreover a huge amount of water is needed for the construction. Often ground water is used for this purpose.
So we are consuming groundwater and at the same time we are allowing lesser water to seep into the ground. This causes depletion of water table.
